Policies and Procedures
As a part of our commitment to safeguarding children, we have a number of policies and procedures in place.
The Parent Hub provides parents with full access to all of our policies and procedures. A password will be provided to you by the Nursery staff.
Please contact the Nursery if you do not remember the password.
Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) at Alton College Nursery
At Alton College Nursery we strive to make all children’s experiences full of fun, learning and laughter. It is important to us that all children are treated equally, and needs are identified and supported as early as possible.
Each child has two Key People, who use their experiences of child development and close relationships with parents to track and identify any additional needs that may arise. These staff are then supported by the Special Educational Needs Coordinator’s (SENCOs), Kayleigh and Ellie, who liaise with various outside agencies to ensure these needs are met and supported while the child is with us.
As a Nursery we have extensive experience with developing Individual Education Plans (IEPs), supporting parents to gain an Education and Health Care Plan (EHCP) for their child, and liaising with outside agencies such as Portage, Speech and Language Therapists, Educational Psychologists, Paediatricians, and others to help each child reach their full potential.

Statement of Intent
It is our Intention at Alton College Nursery that our children experience the 7 Areas of Learning through a careful balance of child initiated, play based learning, alongside appropriate adult-led teaching. Our teaching is guided by individual child’s interests, themes + topics, and our 3 Goal Curriculum.
The 7 Areas of Learning are;
1. Personal, Social and Emotional Development
2. Communication and Language
3. Physical Development
4. Literacy
5. Maths
6. Understanding the World
7. Expressive Art and Design
Our bespoke 3 Goal Curriculum is;
1. To participate in a cooking activity
2. To work as part of a team to put together and participate in an obstacle course
3. To make up our own stories
This bespoke curriculum weaves together all 7 Areas of Learning to create 3 specific goals for our children to achieve by the time they leave our care.
Our Ethos underpins all that we do to support our children and give them the best possible start in life:
1. Confidence
2. Independence
3. Kindness
Implementation
We will Implement this learning through rich experiences both inside Nursery and within our local community. We will continue to facilitate high quality staff knowledge by providing relevant Continuing Professional Development . We will build on our relationship with each child and their carers to enhance and develop their Cultural Capital to prepare them for later life. We use our literacy rich environment to enable all children to become skilled communicators and foster a love of books and rhymes.
Our children thrive in a mixed age group setting which facilitates fantastic opportunities for peer learning.
